Community Coffee

Assemblymember Patrick Ahrens will join Cupertino Mayor Liang Chao on Sept. 6 for a Community Coffee, where they’ll discuss state and local matters with community members. The event is set for 9:30-11 a.m. at the Quinlan Community Center, 10185 N. Stelling Road.

Gold medal pianist

Aristo Sham, the first Gold Medal champion from Hong Kong to be named in the 63-year history of the prestigious Van Cliburn Piano Competition, will perform a solo concert in Cupertino on Sunday, Sept. 28 at 2:30 p.m.

Established in Fort Worth in 1962, the Cliburn is held every four years and is considered one of the most prestigious classical music competitions in the world. Sham came away with the competition’s top honors this year.

The concert, presented by Steinway Society – The Bay Area, takes place at De Anza College’s Visual and Performing Arts Center, 21250 Stevens Creek Blvd. Sham will perform works by Bach, Rachmaninoff, Busoni, Ravel and Beethoven.  A meet-the-artist opportunity follows the concert.

Tickets are $53-$78 at www.steinwaysociety.com or 408-300-5635. Student rush tickets are $20 at the door. A livestream is available for unlimited listens for 48 hours for  $26.75 per household.
