The shooting happened around 2:45 p.m. on the freeway, south of 66th Avenue, CHP Sgt. Andrew Barclay said.
Witnesses reported the shooting before the victim managed to pull over and call for help, Barclay said.
The victim reported being hit in the abdomen by gunfire and was taken to an area hospital for treatment, Barclay said. An update on the victim’s condition was not immediately available.
The CHP closed all southbound lanes of I-880 just before 3:30 p.m. so officers could search for evidence, Barclay said. The freeway fully reopened about an hour later.
Detectives are investigating the shooting.
