Ryane Clowe returns to New York Rangers’ front office after leaving Sharks

SAN JOSE – Ryane Clowe was named an assistant general manager with the New York Rangers on Monday, one day after announcing that he was leaving that same position he held with the San Jose Sharks.

Clowe, 42, unexpectedly stepped down as an assistant general manager with the Sharks on Sunday, stating that the decision to leave the organization after one year was in the best interest of his family. He rejoins the Rangers front office, where he worked under general manager Chris Drury as hockey operations advisor and co-senior advisor from 2021 to 2024.

The Rangers also announced that Ryan Martin was promoted to associate general manager, Jim Sullivan was promoted to assistant GM, and longtime NHL forward Blake Wheeler has been named hockey operations adviser.

Clowe’s move allows him to return to the East Coast, where he has a home in Florida.

The Sharks right now have Joe Will and Tom Holy working as assistant GMs under Mike Grier, who is in his fourth year as San Jose’s general manager.
