SAN JOSE — A woman died following a hit-and-run collision between a vehicle and an electric scooter Monday morning, authorities said.
The collision occurred in the area of Santa Clara Street and Cahill Street around 8 a.m., according to a social media post by the San Jose Police Department.
The rider of the scooter, an adult woman, died of her injuries at a local hospital, authorities added. The name of the woman will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office once her identity is verified and her next of kin are notified.

The vehicle’s driver fled the scene, police said. Authorities did not release a suspect or suspect vehicle description.
Police are continuing to investigate.
Santa Clara Street was closed from Stockton Avenue to Barack Obama Boulevard after the crash. Police asked that people avoid the area.
This was the second scooter rider death in San Jose of 2025, according to data compiled by this news organization.
