Vote now: Bay Area News Group boys athlete of the week

Editor’s note: We prohibit the use of bots and any other artificial methods of voting. Suspicious activity could lead to the disqualification of candidates and a permanent suspension of the Athlete of the Week poll. No voting by email: Votes by email and after 5 p.m. Wednesday are not counted.

Welcome to the Bay Area News Group (Mercury News & East Bay Times) boys Athlete of the Week poll.

For the entire academic year, we will provide a list of candidates who stood out over the previous week and allow you, the reader, to vote for the winner.

This week, we consider performances from Sept. 1-6.

Polls close at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Vote as many times as you’d like until then without using bots or any other artificial methods of voting.

Votes by email and after 5 p.m. Wednesday are not counted.

Winners are announced each Friday online and in the print edition of the Mercury News and East Bay Times sports sections.

Candidates for future Athlete of the Week polls can be nominated at [email protected].

We accept nominations until 11 a.m. each Monday.

We also review stats submitted to MaxPreps by coaches/team statisticians.

Carson Blair, Miramonte football: Blair threw for four touchdowns in Miramonte’s 46-7 win over Alhambra. Miramonte (2-0) will host Montgomery on Friday.

Aiden Castro, Acalanes water polo: The freshman scored two goals and assisted on two more in Acalanes’ 15-7 win over Roseville. Acalanes has started the season 6-1 and is scheduled to play Novato at home on Wednesday. 

Louis DeScioli, Leland water polo: DeScioli, a senior, scored six goals and dished out three assists in Leland 18-7 win over Stockdale. Leland has started the season 4-0. 

Evan Frampton, Woodside football: Rushed for 130 yards and found the end zone twice in Woodside’s 41-0 win over Mountain View. Woodside (2-0) will host Castro Valley at home on Thursday. 

Maurice Johnson, Deer Valley football: Johnson caught two touchdown passes in Deer Valley’s 27-0 win over Novato. Deer Valley (2-0) is scheduled to host Berkeley in its next game. 

Gage Jones, Live Oak football: Jones, a junior, rushed for 169 yards and four touchdowns while also returning a kickoff 89 yards for a score in Live Oak’s 56-21 victory over crosstown rival Sobrato. Live Oak (2-0) will travel to Mountain View on Thursday.

Jordan Lee, California football: Lee, a senior, rushed for 154 yards and a touchdown in California’s 17-7 win over James Logan. California (2-0) will travel to Monterey Trail on Friday.

Jhadis Luckey, Clayton Valley football: Luckey rushed for 305 yards and five touchdowns to lead Clayton Valley to a 35-16 win over College Park. Clayton Valley (1-1) will host San Ramon Valley on Friday.

Kyan Phillips, Lincoln-San Jose football: Phillips had two rushing touchdowns, one receiving and a punt-return score in Lincoln’s 48-24 win over San Jose in the Big Bone Game. Lincoln (2-0) is slated to host Leland on Thursday. 

Callum Schweitzer, Los Gatos football: The senior threw for two touchdowns and rushed for another in Los Gatos’ 35-7 road win against Liberty. Los Gatos (1-1) will travel to Clovis on Friday.
