The incident happened around 1:25 p.m. in the 1500 block of Landess Avenue, Milpitas police Capt. Tyler Jamison said in a news release.

According to Jamison, a group of 10 to 15 people rushed into the store and tried to steal jewelry. The store owner and an employee were the only ones inside the store at the time.

“During the incident, the owner discharged a legally owned firearm,” Jamison said.

No injuries were reported and no jewelry appeared to have been stolen, according to Jamison. The suspects left the scene before officers arrived and remain at large.

An investigation is underway into the incident.
