Editor’s note: We prohibit the use of bots and any other artificial methods of voting. Suspicious activity could lead to the disqualification of candidates and a permanent suspension of the Athlete of the Week poll. No voting by email: Votes by email and after 5 p.m. Wednesday are not counted.

Welcome to the Bay Area News Group (Mercury News & East Bay Times) boys Athlete of the Week poll.

For the entire academic year, we will provide a list of candidates who stood out over the previous week and allow you, the reader, to vote for the winner.

This week, we consider performances from Sept. 8-13.

Polls close at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Vote as many times as you’d like until then without using bots or any other artificial methods of voting.

Votes by email and after 5 p.m. Wednesday are not counted.

Winners are announced each Friday online and in the print edition of the Mercury News and East Bay Times sports sections.

Candidates for future Athlete of the Week polls can be nominated at [email protected].

We accept nominations until 11 a.m. each Monday.

We also review stats submitted to MaxPreps by coaches/team statisticians.

Arjun Banerjee, California football: The senior connected on 10 of 13 passes for 204 yards and three touchdowns as California improved to 3-0 with a 35-21 victory on the road over Monterey Trail-Ell Grove.

Kai Imahara, Wilcox football: The junior quarterback ran for 157 yards and three touchdowns in 10 carries to lead the Chargers to their first win of the season, a 28-3 nonleague rout of Hollister. Imahara also passed for 42 yards.

Isaiah Kalogirou, College Park water polo: In a one-sided victory over Berkeley, the senior had five goals and two assists to lead the way. He began this week with 37 goals, 19 steals and 10 assists on the season.

Rome Leota-Pritchard, Valley Christian football: The sophomore threw for 263 yards and three touchdowns on 14-of-19 passing to lead the Warriors to a 42-11 rout of Patterson. Valley Christian improved to 2-1.

Adrian Masaniai, Deer Valley football: The senior had himself a game, throwing for seven touchdowns and 396 yards on 20-of-25 passing, as Deer Valley improved to 3-0 with a 54-27 victory over Berkeley.

Palmer Riley, Menlo School football: The senior finished with three sacks, 11 tackles, two quarterback hurries and one pass deflection to help lead Menlo to a 35-0 victory on the road over Branham. He also had four offensive pancake blocks as Menlo upped its record to 3-0.

Calvin Sridhara, Leland water polo: The sophomore had five goals and a steal as Leland rolled to a 16-6 victory over Harbor. He ended the week with 23 goals, 12 steals and nine assists as Leland has opened the season 7-1.

Zach Tabibian, Campolindo football: Kicked a 37-yard field goal with less than two minutes to play to propel Campo past Vanden 16-13. Also made two other field goals, including one earlier in the fourth quarter to tie the score, and led the Cougars in rushing with 61 yards.

Tyler Winkles, Acalanes football: The junior completed 22 of 30 passes for 335 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for two TDs to lead the Dons to a 42-35 comeback victory at St. Ignatius. The victory improved Acalanes’ record to 3-0.

Blake Zanger, Leigh football: The senior rushed for 172 yards and four touchdowns in 24 carries as Leigh upped its record to 2-1 with a 41-14 rout of South San Francisco.
