Costco considers a recalled wine so dangerous that it has sent a letter to every store member who bought a bottle telling them to immediately throw it away.

“Do not return the item,” the letter says, in bold type.
The bottles of Kirkland Signature Prosecco Valdobbiadene are at risk of exploding, even if they’re just sitting on a counter, Costco said.
People who have one of the bottles are advised to leave it unopened and to wrap it in paper towels and put it in a plastic bag before discarding it in the garbage can.
They can use the letter as proof of purchase when requesting a refund at their Costco store.
Costco did not say whether any bottles are known to have exploded or how it learned of the risk.
The sparkling wine, bearing the retail chain’s private label, is from Miami-based importer Ethica Wines.
The letter says the recalled bottles (item #1879870) were sold between April 15 and Aug. 26 at Costco stores in Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Iowa, Missouri, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Kentucky.
