SAN FRANCISCO — After multiple attempts to delay his incarceration, a 26-year-old man has reported to prison to serve a three-year sentence for a hack that gleaned roughly $2.7 million in gift cards from Apple, court records show.

Keith Latteri, a resident of New Jersey, was sentenced in May by U.S. District Judge William Orrick, but was able to repeatedly delay his entrance to prison, convincing Orrick twice to move back his self-surrender date, court records show. After Latteri’s lawyer tried a third time — arguing he needed to take care of business affairs — Orrick balked and ordered Latteri to report to prison by Aug. 1.
Latteri’s release date is set for early 2028. His sentencing memos, where defense attorneys typically cite facts sympathetic to their client and ask for leniency, were filed under seal. Latteri pleaded guilty to intentional damage to a protected computer and charges remain pending against his co-defendant Noah Roskin-Frazee, court records show.
Prosecutors argued in court filings that Latteri and Roskin-Frazee caused millions of damage to Apple and a second company in lost items and remediation costs. Latteri’s sentencing orders him to pay joint restitution of more than $3.8 million.
But prosecutors also cited allegations against Latteri that didn’t result in criminal charges, calling him someone who “used the internet to serve as a one man crime spree.” A prosecution sentencing memo says FBI investigators gathered evidence that Latteri extorted girls for nude pictures, threatened people — sometimes while using racist epitaphs — as well as forging subpoenas that appeared to come from Disney lawyers, and doxxing others online.
“In one account Latteri controlled, the FBI uncovered evidence that Latteri impersonated representatives of companies like Snapchat, Apple, and Verizon to approximately 371 different victims,” the sentencing memo says. In one 2015 instance, cited among other similar examples, Latteri blackmailed a 16-year-old girl into sending him nude pictures after gaining access to her social media accounts, telling her “I’ll give you 10 minutes or I press send” after threatening to post unspecified content to her profiles and email her teachers, prosecutors said.
“The victim sent approximately 10 to 15 photos to Latteri,” the sentencing memo says. Prosecutors said that mitigating factors including Latteri’s young age at the time and his rough upbringing, which was not detailed publicly.
Roskin-Frazee is due in court later this month, records show. Latteri is currently serving his sentence at a medical facility prison in Lexington, Kentucky, according to the Bureau of Prisons.
