OAKLAND — A drunk driver crashed into a motorcyclist Friday night in East Oakland, killing himself and leaving the motorcyclist critically injured on the pavement, according to Oakland Police.

A 47-year-old Antioch man driving a Toyota Corolla collided with a 47-year-old man traveling northbound on a motorcycle at about 9:23 p.m. at the intersection of 42nd Ave. and International Boulevard, police said Saturday.

Police found the Corolla driver unresponsive allegedly with open containers of alcohol and marijuana in the vehicle. He died from injuries suffered in the crash, according to police. Police Saturday had not released his identity, pending notification to his next of kin.

The collision ejected the motorcyclist from his motorcycle, falling to the ground, according to police. He was transported to a hospital and by Saturday morning was reported in critical but stable condition, police said.

Police said it appears alcohol and possibly drugs may have influenced this crash. This incident remains under investigation.
