Vote now: Bay Area News Group girls athlete of the week

Editor’s note: We prohibit the use of bots and any other artificial methods of voting. Suspicious activity could lead to the disqualification of candidates and a permanent suspension of the Athlete of the Week poll. No voting by email: Votes by email and after 5 p.m. Wednesday are not counted.

Welcome to the Bay Area News Group (Mercury News & East Bay Times) girls Athlete of the Week poll.

For the entire academic year, we will provide a list of candidates who stood out over the previous week and allow you, the reader, to vote for the winner.

This week, we consider performances from Sept. 15-20.

Polls close at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Vote as many times as you’d like until then without using bots or any other artificial methods of voting.

Votes by email and after 5 p.m. Wednesday are not counted.

Winners are announced each Friday online and in the print edition of the Mercury News and East Bay Times sports sections.

Candidates for future Athlete of the Week polls can be nominated at [email protected].

We accept nominations until 11 a.m. each Monday.

We also review stats submitted to MaxPreps by coaches/team statisticians.

McKenzie Anderson, James Logan volleyball: The senior captain and San Francisco State commit had 13 kills and three digs in a sweep of Irvington, then added 19 kills and 15 digs in a sweep of Mission San Jose to help Logan improve to 4-0 in Mission Valley Athletic League play. 

Brooke Cannan, Los Gatos water polo: The senior scored five goals and added five steals in a 11-9 win over Castilleja, then added four goals, two assists and three steals in a 10-9 loss to Willow Glen. 

Paige Gravendaal Chase, College Park water polo: The freshman had a prolific game for College Park in a 15-8 win over Bishop O’Dowd, scoring eight goals and adding a steal as the Falcons improved to 9-1.

Elise Chen, Menlo School tennis: The senior helped Menlo win the prestigious Point Loma Invitational, going 4-0 in her singles matches as the Knights’ singles players swept some of the best teams in the state. It was the first time a Northern California team won the tournament title. 

Ella Del Rosario, Acalanes water polo: The senior attacker had a solid week for the Dons, scoring four goals and adding an assist in a win over Davis, then adding three goals and two steals in a 13-1 win over Granite Bay. She added five goals, an assist and a steal in a 13-3 win over Monte Vista and another five-goal game with two steals in a 9-6 win over Arroyo Grande.

Bren David, Milpitas flag football: The junior led Milpitas to a pair of big wins last week, topping Riordan 40-12 and Sacred Heart Prep 20-19. Against Riordan, she completed 16 of 25 passes for 211 yards and two touchdowns. Against SHP, she completed 16 of 26 throws for 147 yards and three scores as the Trojans won 20-19. She added a tackle in the win over SHP. 

Natalie DaSilva, Santa Clara field hockey: The senior came up big for Santa Clara last week, compiling 32 saves, including 20 against Los Gatos. She had a diving penalty save, multiple kick saves and jumping saves and covered from goalpost to goalpost with sliding and diving saves. “She was the best player on the field this week,” Santa Clara coach Laura Jones said.

Camryn Gutierrez, Hillsdale water polo: The senior had eight assists and added four steals as Hillsdale beat Mercy to improve to 2-0 in Peninsula Athletic League Ocean Division play.

Marin Lnenicka, Granada flag football: The senior had four catches for 87 yards and three touchdowns in Granada’s 27-7 win over Carondelet, also adding three punt returns for 28 yards and eight tackles and an interception defensively. 

Natalie Miyamoto, Hercules flag football: The senior scored five touchdowns in a 35-6 win over El Cerrito, including a 46-yard touchdown run and four TD catches. She caught five passes for 144 yards and led the Titans defensively with eight tackles and two passes broken up.
