September 23, 2025
Heat advisory in place for Bay Area for Tuesday

San Francisco Bay Shoreline, East Bay Interior Valleys, Santa Clara Valley Including San Jose and East Bay Hills as well as San Francisco County are under a heat advisory which was released by the National Weather Service on Monday at 8:04 p.m. The advisory is valid for Tuesday, Sept. 23 between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.

“Temperatures up to 100 degrees for parts of the East Bay, mid to upper 90’s across portions of the San Francisco Bay Shoreline and the Santa Clara Valley. Mid to upper 80’s over eastern portions of San Francisco,” can be expected according to the NWS San Francisco CA. “The warmest part of the day for the city of San Francisco and adjacent San Francisco Bay Shoreline will be late morning through mid-afternoon when a return of weak onshore flow is expected to bring some relief.”

“Hot conditions can cause heat illnesses. This level of heat affects anyone without effective cooling and/or adequate hydration. Impacts likely in some health systems, heat-sensitive industries and infrastructure,” the NWS said.

Heat safety: A guide to staying safe in high temperatures

Stay hydrated: Make sure to drink plenty of fluids.
Find cool shelter: Stay indoors in an air-conditioned room to keep cool.
Avoid sun exposure: Stay out of the sun, and make sure to check up on relatives and neighbors.
Child and pet safety: Never leave young children and pets unattended in hot vehicles – car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
Caution outdoors: When working or spending time outside, take extra precautions.
Time your activities wisely: Consider rescheduling strenuous activities to early morning or evening if possible.
Recognize heat-related issues: Learn to identify the warning signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
Dress comfortably: Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing to stay cool.

Additional tips for outdoor workers:

For outdoor workers, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recommends regular rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas.
If someone succumbs to the heat, promptly relocate them to a cool, shaded location.
In emergency situations, dial 911 for immediate assistance.

These NWS heat safety directives are essential for safeguarding your well-being when facing high temperatures. Stay well-informed and take the necessary precautions to shield yourself and others from the potential hazards of extreme heat.
