Charles Schulz’s great-grandson demonstrates viral Snoopy-inspired dance in honor of ‘Peanuts’ 75th anniversary

While it celebrates the 75th anniversary of “Peanuts” this week, Santa Rosa’s Charles M. Schulz Museum is sharing a new viral dance for Gen Z fans of Snoopy led by the comic strip creator’s great-grandson.

On Monday, the museum posted a video on its Instagram and Facebook pages of 17-year-old Micah Revelli offering a tutorial of the “Snoopy Stomp,” a two-part dance inspired by the world-famous beagle. As of Friday morning, the reel has more than 35,000 likes on Instagram.

Set to the Vince Guaraldi Trio jazz instrumental “Linus And Lucy” theme from the 1965 animated special, “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” the dance involves kicking up your legs and twisting your toes while looking side to side, much as the “Peanuts” gang does in the Christmas special’s famous dance scene. The next part of the dance involves twisting your heels while punching toward the ground and shuffling.

According to Schulz Museum Marketing Director Stephanie King, the dance began circulating online over the summer, with Instagram and TikTok users dancing to remixes of the musical theme. One of those was Revelli, the grandson of Charles Schulz’s daughter Amy Schulz Johnson, who is currently co-directing and co-producing a theater production of “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown,” where he lives in Pleasant Grove, Utah.

Revelli who plays Snoopy in the production, posted a video of him and his castmates dressed as the “Peanuts” gang joining in on the online trend last month.

Shortly after, museum director Gina Huntsinger reached out to Revelli and his mother, Stephanie Revelli, about collaborating on the tutorial video to coincide with the strip’s 75th anniversary.

“We absolutely love how it turned out,” King said in an email Friday. “Micah is a talented dancer and brings a lot of heart to his work. But to see the creative lineage of Charles Schulz shine through Micah makes it especially touching and meaningful.”

King called the online reception to the video heartwarming, adding that Sarah Jessica Parker and Patricia Arquette were among those who liked the video on Instagram.

Huntsinger compared Revelli to his great-grandfather in a statement emailed to The Press Democrat on Friday.

“Like Schulz, Micah is really passionate about his art. They are both storytellers, each in their own way,” she said. “The viral trend of the ‘Snoopy Stomp’ speaks to Schulz’s legacy—his work continues to resonate 75 years later and remains more popular than ever. It’s fun to see each generation bring something new to it.”

Revelli said the experience of making the video and watching the comments roll in has been “so cool.”

“It’s so rare for a descendant of somebody as influential as my great-grandfather to get to have experiences like these, and I think it’s so special to the ‘Peanuts’ brand,” he said in a statement in Friday’s email.

“Peanuts” fans can also hear Revelli’s voice in the the 2015 animated feature, “The Peanuts Movie,” which was co-written by Schulz’s son Craig Schulz and his son Bryan Schulz.

Local fans can keep the celebrations going this weekend when the museum hosts its “Celebrating 75 Years of Peanuts!” party on Saturday, featuring art tutorials, book talks, and photos with Snoopy.
