BERKELEY — A 3.1 magnitude earthquake centered in Berkeley jolted the area Thursday morning, official said.
No immediate damage or injuries were reported.
The quake, which could be felt in surrounding cities, hit about 9:23 a.m. and occurred just over five miles below the surface about a mile east of Berkeley, officials said.
It was the first significant shaker since a series of quakes registering between 4.3 and 1.0 in magnitude were felt in the same area during the week of Sept. 22.
The temblor came less than an hour before Thursday morning’s scheduled earthquake drill, the Great California Shakeout.
