Kyle and Katina Connaughton, co-owners of SingleThread, a three-Michelin-starred restaurant and inn in Healdsburg, are expanding their hospitality enterprise.

The couple is underway with a complete renovation of the former River Belle Inn, a 10-guestroom property that will become a bed-and-breakfast, according to a recent announcement.

The Selvedge, A SingleThread Inn, is set to open late next year.

The Selvedge is the latest hospitality concept for SingleThread and Vertice Hospitality Management, led by co-owner and CEO Tony Greenberg, and the Connaughtons. Kyle serves as chief culinary officer and Katina as chief agricultural officer, according to the Oct. 9 announcement.

Taking its name from the world of textiles and in keeping with the SingleThread brand, a selvedge is the finished edge of a garment that keeps it from unraveling and fraying, which represents “integrity and intention made tangible,” according to the release.

“(The Selvedge) continues our mission to foster deeper and more meaningful relationships with our guests, the local community, our team and wider global agricultural, culinary and hospitality communities,” said Greenberg, who also developed and co-owns SingleThread Farms. Vertice purchased the River Belle Inn property in 2022 for $7.25 million, according to the Press Democrat. A renovation plan wasn’t in the works at the time.

“The 68 Front St. address (of the former River Belle Inn) has a storied lineage, and the property is idyllically perched on the gorgeous banks of the Russian River,” Greenberg added.

The River Belle Inn was a Healdsburg mansion first built in 1895 as the home of American wine industry pioneer Isabelle Simi Haigh, and later transformed into a luxury bed and breakfast, according to the announcement.

The Selvedge will preserve the original building’s Victorian-style architecture and leave portions of the property that served as the former home of Haigh untouched, according to the release.

Exterior architecture for The Selvedge will be led by Santa Rosa-based Axia Architects. AvroKO will oversee the interior design. The San Francisco-based company also designed SingleThread’s restaurant and inn, according to the press release.

The design of The Selvedge will have an English influence — including Sunday roasts and afternoon tea — paying homage to the Connaughtons’ many years spent in England.

“(The) Selvedge reflects all that Katina and I love about Sonoma with the incredible hospitality culture we experienced during our formative years living and working in England,” said Kyle Connaughton.

According to Katina Connaughton, The Selvedge is both a refined and a rebellious reinterpretation of the quintessential bed and breakfast.

“Both posh and punk,” she said.

The Selvedge will be run by SingleThread alumni and couple Brianna Davis and fiancée Chef Kyle Knox, according to the announcement. Room rates will start at around $1,000 per night, an entry-level price point in comparison to Singlethread, according to a company spokesperson.

The Connaughtons purchased the SingleThread property in 2014, and opened for business in December 2016. In addition to its three-star Michelin rating, SingleThread has been recognized multiple times as a best restaurant, most recently having ranked No. 8 on the first-ever North America’s 50 Best Restaurants list, a spin-off of the global World’s 50 Best Restaurants ranking, the Press Democrat reported Oct. 7.
