What is a ProMaster? The ProMaster is a versatile commercial front wheel drive cargo or passenger van built in the Saltillo, Mexico assembly plant, and sold in North America by RAM. The RAM ProMaster is a versatile commercial FWD van built by Ram Trucks, and designed for businesses, commercial fleets and individuals. It’s built in various lengths, configurations and roof heights, with extensive cargo space, advanced safety and updated technology. It is available as an all electric EV model, the ProMaster EV.
And who is RAM? RAM trucks are the dedicated truck and commercial vehicle division of the global automaker Stellantis, having been separated from the Dodge brand in 2009. Before 2009, Dodge Ram trucks were built by Dodge, but today the RAM brand focuses solely on its lineup of trucks and cargo vans, including the RAM 1500 and the RAM 2500 & 3500 heavy duty (HD) pickup trucks.
Here’s a quick breakdown of the RAM Trucks brand:
Origin: RAM trucks were originally part of Dodge, with the RAM name first appearing on Dodge pickups in 1981.
Brand Separation: In 2009, Chrysler, the parent company of Dodge, decided to establish RAM as a separate, standalone brand for its trucks.
Parent Company: Today, RAM operates under the umbrella of Stellantis, the global automaker that formed in 2021 from the merger of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles in America and Italy, and the Groupe PSA automotive holding company from France.
Specialization: The split allowed RAM to focus on the specific needs of the truck market, while Dodge could concentrate on performance vehicles like cars and SUVs.
Product Lineup: The current RAM lineup includes light duty 1500 trucks, plus the RAM HD 2500 & 3500 trucks, chassis cabs and commercial vans.
This week RAM sent me a 2025 ProMaster 2500 Utility 159″ Wheelbase Cargo Van to test drive and review. The base window sticker price for this high roof model is $50,860. The options on the test van are: the SLT Plus package for $6,995, the advanced safety group for $1,795, the upper and lower side wall cargo box paneling for $590, the wood floor for $495 and the class 4 towing hitch assembly for $495. The manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP), including the $1,995 delivery charge, is: $63,225.
After adding in the state and local sales tax, plus the DMV and dealer fees, the out the door and in your commercial parking lot total purchase price came to: $71,128. The test van is right in the middle of the group being a 2500 3/4 ton model with a high roof and a 12 foot cargo box. This van is in the configuration that sells the best, and it’s in the sweet spot of cargo vans in length, height and GVW.
The available roof heights are:
