Vote now: Bay Area News Group girls athlete of the week

Editor’s note: We prohibit the use of bots and any other artificial methods of voting. Suspicious activity could lead to the disqualification of candidates and a permanent suspension of the Athlete of the Week poll. No voting by email: Votes by email and after 5 p.m. Wednesday are not counted.

Welcome to the Bay Area News Group (Mercury News & East Bay Times) girls Athlete of the Week poll.

For the entire academic year, we will provide a list of candidates who stood out over the previous week and allow you, the reader, to vote for the winner.

This week, we consider performances from Oct. 20-25.

Polls close at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Vote as many times as you’d like until then without using bots or any other artificial methods of voting.

Votes by email and after 5 p.m. Wednesday are not counted.

Winners are announced each Friday online and in the print edition of the Mercury News and East Bay Times sports sections.

Candidates for future Athlete of the Week polls can be nominated at [email protected].

We accept nominations until 11 a.m. each Monday.

We also review stats submitted to MaxPreps by coaches/team statisticians.

On to the nominees:

Ava Allen, Menlo School flag football: The junior quarterback/defensive back amassed eight passing touchdowns and two rushing TDs in West Bay Athletic League wins over Sacred Heart Cathedral (60-0) and St. Francis (20-6). Allen also had three pass break-ups.

McKenzie Anderson, James Logan volleyball: The senior had 14 kills, two aces, a block and 14 digs in a sweep of Moreau Catholic, then added 16 kills, three aces and four digs in a sweep of American.

Caeli AuYeung, California flag football: The senior quarterback completed 15 of 21 passes for 116 yards and two touchdowns in Cal’s 12-6 East Bay Athletic League semifinal win over Granada, then threw for 195 yards and a score while completing 26 of 37 passes in a 14-7 championship game victory over San Ramon Valley.   

Finley Corona, Christopher volleyball: The senior compiled 17 kills while hitting an efficient, team-leading .467 and added one assist, a block and 10 digs as Christopher beat Leigh 3-1.

Ella Del Rosario, Acalanes water polo: The senior scored five goals, had four steals and drew three exclusions in a win over Menlo School. She added four goals and a steal in a win over Leland, a goal in a loss to Sacred Heart Prep and four goals and three exclusions drawn in a win over Arroyo Grande.

Selena Goodson, Pittsburg water polo: The senior scored 10 goals and added a pair of steals and assists as Pittsburg beat Concord 22-6.

Aria Sherwood, Burlingame water polo: The senior captain scored nine goals as the Panthers beat Hillsdale 12-7, getting Burlingame closer to a berth in the Central Coast Section playoffs.

Caroline Swanson, College Park water polo: The senior had three goals and a steal in College Park’s 13-7 win over Alhambra and added a goal, an assist and two steals in a close loss to Castro Valley.

Kennedy Whyte, Monte Vista volleyball: The senior had 39 kills and added 17 digs as Monte Vista beat San Ramon Valley in a tough five-set match.

Gabby Wickham, Priory flag football: The junior passed for 250 yards and five touchdowns in a win over Notre Dame-San Jose and a narrow loss to Presentation, also adding four sacks and an interception defensively.
