SAN JOSE — A car fire that ignited a carport and then spread to two flanking apartment buildings displaced 10 residents in West San Jose on Thursday night, according to the San Jose Fire Department.
The three-alarm blaze was reported at 11:03 p.m. and involved apartment buildings that line the northeast corner of Del Mar Avenue and Marlboro Court, the fire department said.

Officials said a car fire spread to two other vehicles and then a carport located between two nine-unit apartment buildings. The fire was knocked down within an hour, and no injuries were reported.
The fire destroyed a unit in the apartment building facing Marlboro Court, and a unit in the building facing Del Mar Avenue had significant fire damage, according to SJFD. Two other units in the Del Mar Avenue building sustained moderate damage, while five other units were damaged by fire, smoke, or from firefighters forcing their way in to fight the fire.
The entire Del Mar Avenue building was declared uninhabitable from fire damage or because utilities had to be shut off, the fire department said. Residents who live in the Marlboro Court building, aside from the destroyed unit, were allowed to return.
A cause for the fire remains under investigation.
