Bay Area high school football roundup 2025: Best of Week 10 action

Welcome back to the Bay Area News Group’s high school football roundup.

Here, you’ll find all the details from the weekend’s action in this news organization’s coverage area, which encompasses teams that play in leagues based primarily in Alameda, Contra Costa, San Mateo and Santa Clara counties.

Check back every Saturday during the season for scores, highlights and top performers, updated throughout the day.

Ranked teams

No, 1 De La Salle 52, No. 11 California 14

California state 100-meter dash champion Jaden Jefferson returned the opening kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown and added two more scores before halftime as De La Salle improved to 9-0 with a rout at home of California (7-2). Darren Sabedra has more details here.

No. 3 Pittsburg 42, Freedom 0

Defensive lineman Jacob Mejia intercepted a first-quarter pass and on the next snap – the first for Pittsburg’s offense – Ramire Lewis scored on a 45-yard touchdown reception from Carlos Torres. The Pirates never looked back as they scored all of their points before halftime. The second half was played with a running clock. Torres finished with three touchdown passes. JaVale Jones passed for one. Isaiah Harrison added a 73-yard touchdown run. Pittsburg improved to 8-1 overall and 4-0 in the Bay Valley Athletic League. Freedom is 1-8, 0-4. – Darren Sabedra

No. 4 Acalanes 31, No. 15 Clayton Valley Charter 14

Acalanes clinched the Diablo Athletic League Foothill Division title with a win at home over Clayton Valley as Josh Elerts rushed for 134 yards in 35 carries and Tyler Winkles passed for 210 to lead the way. Evan Webeck has the game story here.

No. 6 Los Gatos 56, Menlo-Atherton 13

Los Gatos scored touchdowns on its first two offensive plays, setting the tone for a rout at home over Menlo-Atherton on Thursday to remained undefeated in Peninsula Athletic League Bay Division play. Callum Schweitzer completed all seven passes he attempted for 170 yards before sitting out the second half. Glenn Reeves has all the details here.

Amador Valley 35, No. 10 Monte Vista 14

Anthony Harrington caught eight passes for 215 yards, including touchdowns of 53 and 82 yards, as Amador Valley stunned Monte Vista in an East Bay Athletic League Mountain Division game in Pleasanton. Justice delos Santos has the recap here.

No. 16 Campolindo 21, Las Lomas 7

Reid Habas’ 62-yard touchdown pass to Everett Zellmer tied the score 7-7 late in the first quarter and Micah Parker’s 13-yard touchdown run five minutes into the second gave Campolindo the lead for good as the Cougars won on the road in DAL Foothill Division play. Habas’ 12-yard touchdown pass to Rai Marchetti with four minutes left in the third quarter stretched Campo’s lead to 14. Kane Sekulich’s scoring run gave Las Lomas a 7-0 lead in the opening quarter. Campo had only eight offensive plays in the first half. Las Lomas ran 20 plays on its opening series. Campo improved to 7-2, 1-2. Las Lomas is 5-4, 0-3. – Darren Sabedra

No. 24 Woodside 37, Aragon 0

The Wildcats (9-0, 4-0) clinched the Peninsula Athletic League Ocean Division outright championship Thursday by earning their fourth shutout of the season and extending their best start since going 13-0 with Julian Edelman at quarterback in 2004. J.J. Lange returned a punt for a touchdown for the second consecutive game and fourth time this season, going 50 yards for the score. Daniel Torres carried three times for 107 yards and with two TDs, his 17th and 18th of the season. Charlie Dalrymple completed 6 of 10 passes for 156 yards and three TDs, with Kolby Nelson catching two for 79 yards and two scores. For visiting Aragon (4-5, 1-3), Charlie Wilcox caught four passes for 69 yards. Though they have mostly played in different PAL divisions over the years, this was Woodside’s first victory over Aragon since 1999. — David Kiefer

East Bay

Hayward 53, Irvington 8

Hayward continues to roll toward the West Alameda County Conference Mission Division title. The Farmers routed an Irvington team that looked to be one of the Mission schools with a chance to compete with Hayward (6-3, 4-0). Instead, Jaydyn Irving tossed three TDs passes on nine attempts – two to Malachi Ferguson and one to Isiah Spearman. Maurice Hall ran for 76 yards on three carries and a pair of TDs, while Lamont McDonald carried 11 times for 175 yards and a trio of scores. Tywan Melrose blocked a punt and scored a TD, and Hayward’s defense held Irvington (6-3, 2-2) to 130 total yards (60 rush, 70 pass). Irvington scored the game’s opening TD but struggled to slow McDonald thereafter. “He was electric,” Vikings coach Anthony Jackson said. – Christian Babcock

James Logan 17, Bishop O’Dowd 0

Logan kicked O’Dowd out of the driver’s seat in the West Alameda County Conference Foothill Division race on Thursday night, using a pick-six and a receiving TD by Jeramiyah Cotton to pull away in the second half. The Colts are now one win from the Foothill crown. Christian Babcock has the full story here.

Livermore 38, Foothill 17

CT Harper scored two touchdowns and AJ Carey, Matteo Lortie and Caden Romero each reached the end zone once as Livermore cruised to an EBAL Valley Division win at Foothill. “Matteo Lortie had a great game,” coach John Wade said. “He spread it out to the receivers.” Livermore (8-1, 2-0) also got two interceptions on defense from Isaac Lau. Foothill is 4-5, 0-3. — Darren Sabedra

Piedmont 27, Kennedy-Fremont 8

Jimmy Lagios threw three touchdown passes and Rehan Mumtaz ran for one to lead Piedmont to a victory at home over Kennedy in WACC Mission Division play. George Saunders intercepted a pass and Jason Shum added 2 ½ sacks for the Highlanders, who improved to 5-4, 3-1. Kennedy is 5-4, 1-3. – Darren Sabedra

South Bay/Peninsula

Christopher 31, Lincoln-San Jose 29

Kordell Crocker’s fourth-quarter interception and 51-yard return was the pivotal moment in the back-and-forth contest, swinging the momentum to Christopher for good. Adrian Leon’s fourth touchdown run of the game, and 14th of the season, was the go-ahead score with 5:10 in the game. David Kiefer has the game story here.

Half Moon Bay 35, Hillsdale 13

The Cougars (6-3, 3-2) remained in a tie for second with Sequoia in the Peninsula Athletic League Ocean Division with a home victory Thursday. Half Moon Bay rushed for 294 yards and picked up 18 first downs on the ground, and held Hillsdale (3-6, 1-3) to 31 rushing yards. Hillsdale’s Tyler Essa caught 15 passes for 129 yards, with quarterback Grant Mattias completing 22 of 31 passes for 232 yards and one touchdown. Half Moon Bay’s sophomore QB Paxton Holden completed 3 of 4 passes for 65 yards and a touchdown. — David Kiefer

Leigh 35, Live Oak 28, OT

Leigh overcame a 28-14 second-half deficit to send the game to overtime, then clinched the BVAL Mt. Hamilton Division win in Morgan Hill on a fourth-down stop at the goal line after Miles Huntington gave the visitors the lead with a 6-yard touchdown run to begin OT. Huntington’s 48-yard touchdown pass to Matthew Varnell pulled Leigh to within 28-20 late in the third quarter. The Longhorns evened the score when Blake Zanger scored his third rushing TD of the game and Charlie Lyon connected with Varnell for the two-point play. Gage Jones scored two touchdowns for Live Oak, including one in the third quarter that widened the margin to 28-14. Leigh also blocked a field goal that would have given Live Oak the lead with 1:42 left. Live Oak fell to 7-2, 2-2. Leigh is 5-4, 1-3. – Darren Sabedra

Piedmont Hills 60, Del Mar 14

Alijah Torres rushed for 219 yards on four carries and scored four touchdowns for the Pirates (6-3, 4-0), who clinched a share of the Blossom Valley Athletic League Santa Teresa-Foothill Division title with the victory. Torres has 12 touchdowns this season. Piedmont Hills gained 347 yards on the ground and averaged 12.9 yards per carry. For Del Mar (2-7, 0-4), Leonel Aleman rushed for 91 yards on 15 carries and scored a touchdown. — David Kiefer

Pioneer 21, Overfelt 7

A “big W for the Mustangs,” as coach Eric Perry put it, has Pioneer dreaming big as it wraps up its regular season. The Mustangs (5-4, 3-1 BVAL Santa Teresa-Foothill) bolstered their shot at a CCS playoff spot thanks to big nights from Adam Larson (14 rushes, 97 yards, three tackles, pass defended) and Colton Bermillo (11 rushes, 60 yards, rush TD, 10 tackles, six solo, and a fumble recovery). QB Matt Gonzales was 10-of-17 passing for 150 yards and a score. Sam Natividad caught five passes for 48 yards and a score. Connor Christensen had 10 tackles (eight solo) and scored on a pick-six. Haden Beckles compiled 10 tackles (nine solo) and three QB hurries. “The guys played their butts off,” Perry said. Kingston Tagaloa scored the lone TD for Overfelt (4-5, 2-2), which was set up by Chris Hanley’s 72-yard run. – Christian Babcock

San Mateo 35, Capuchino 0

The Bearcats had three rushers with at least 83 yards while gouging host Capuchino for 332 yards on the ground on Thursday. Going into next week’s Little Big Game against Burlingame, San Mateo (6-3, 3-1) remains in contention for a share of the Peninsula Athletic League De Anza Division title. T.J. Johnson carried four times for 114 yards, QB Lukas Fitzgerald gained 86 yards on 16 carries and scored two touchdowns, and Cameron Barry rushed twice for 83 yards for the Bearcats. Fitzgerald’s only pass went for a 70-yard touchdown to Sergio Oliveros. Capuchino dropped to 2-7 and 1-3. — David Kiefer

Early knockout: Los Gatos scores TDs on its first two plays, routs M-A

Sequoia 25, Milpitas 7

Nolan Fausto rushed for 187 yards on 25 carries and scored a touchdown and caught two passes for 50 yards to lead the Ravens (5-4, 3-2) on Thursday. Sequoia remains tied for second with Half Moon Bay in the Peninsula Athletic League Ocean Division while Milpitas (4-5, 1-3) dropped into a fourth-place tie. Sequoia rushed for 328 yards, with QB Luke Ostrander scoring three TDs on the ground among his eight carries for 58 yards. Teammate Jayden Russi gained 55 yards on seven carries and Blake Whittaker intercepted a pass. For visiting Milpitas, Jonah Mati completed 15 of 31 passes for 165 yards and a touchdown. — David Kiefer 

Yerba Buena 76, Prospect 36

Yerba Buena scored early, often and all night long to pull away from what was nearly a 38-36 margin at the half. But YB’s Tywan Melrose returned a kickoff for a TD right before halftime, and the Aztec Warriors continually stretched the lead in the second half. “They made the defensive adjustments at halftime that they needed and scored 30 unanswered in the second half,” said Prospect coach Jake Shaughnessy. Yerba Buena (6-3, 5-1) remained in contention for the Blossom Valley Athletic League West Valley Division title and the league’s lone Central Coast Section playoff berth. The Aztec Warriors face 1-7 James Lick next week. They need to win that game and hope that San Jose, which beat Yerba Buena 26-12 on Oct. 3, loses one of its remaining games. Prospect dropped to 4-5, 4-2. – Christian Babcock
