Oakland Tech basketball star ArDarius Grayson commits to Weber State

Oakland Tech basketball star ArDarius Grayson commits to Weber State

Oakland’s top high school basketball player is going to Weber State.

ArDarius Grayson, the Oakland Athletic League’s back-to-back MVP, has committed to Weber State, he announced on Instagram on Saturday. Grayson will join NorCal and Lincoln-Stockton standout Anthony Moore at the Utah school.

Grayson was a star player for Tech for the last two seasons. He led the Bulldogs to an OAL, Oakland Section and Division II state championship last season. This year, the senior captured yet another league and section title and took Tech to the NorCal Division II semifinals where it fell to San Ramon Valley in overtime.

In his final high school game, Grayson scored 36 points, grabbed nine rebounds, dished out seven assists, blocked four shots and recorded three steals. His half court heave to send the game into a second overtime rimmed out in one of the most thrilling games of the high school basketball season.

“ArDarius Grayson has been nothing short of exceptional. He’s spectacular, man,” Tech coach Karega Hart told the Bay Area News Group after the loss to SRV. “He’s been one of the hardest workers I ever coached, one of the most coachable kids and the ultimate competitor.”

Grayson is not the first point guard from the OAL to leave for Weber State. Oakland High alumni Damian Lillard spent four seasons at Weber State before becoming the sixth pick in the 2012 NBA Draft.

Like Lillard, Grayson is best known for coming up big in the clutch. The 6-foot point guard has a knack for making all the right plays down the stretch on both ends of the floor.

Despite falling short of winning back-to-back state titles, Grayson said he is proud of the way he and his team went out.

“We made it far,” Grayson said. “We lost in the third round on a shot that rimmed out for me, but I’m proud of our team and proud of how far we came.”
