Officers were initially dispatched to the 500 block of Winslow Street around 5:45 p.m. for a report of a solo vehicle collision, Redwood City police Lt. Jeff Clements said in a news release.

The driver was seen walking away from the scene and a female passenger was found outside of the car.

An investigation revealed the driver had assaulted the passenger, driven recklessly and intentionally crashed their vehicle into a center divide, according to Clements.

San Mateo County sheriff’s deputies who were in the area at the time detained the man without incident. He was identified as the driver of the vehicle and placed under arrest.

The passenger, meanwhile, was taken to an area hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

The man was later booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility in Redwood City on charges of reckless driving, kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon and domestic violence.

Anyone with information related to the case can contact the police department at 650-780-7100.
