New York Rangers’ team bus backed into Macklin Celebrini’s car, witness says

SAN JOSE – San Jose Sharks rookie forward Macklin Celebrini had a night to forget Saturday.

First, Celebrini was held off the scoresheet in the Sharks’ 6-1 loss to the New York Rangers at SAP Center. Then, after the game, Celebrini, according to a witness, discovered that his car, parked in the players’ lot at the arena, had been struck by the Rangers’ team bus as it backed into the lot.

According to witness Ashley Frame, who was standing on West St. John Street near the players’ lot, Celebrini was not in the car at the time of the collision. Frame told this news organization that Rangers players and other team members were not on the bus.

The car of San Jose Sharks player Macklin Celebrini incurred minor damage under the right front headlight after, according to a witness, a team bus chartered by the New York Rangers made contact with his car on Saturday night at SAP Center in San Jose. In a video posted on the social media platform X by Frame, Celebrini was seen on his phone after the Rangers’ team bus made contact with his Range Rover. The vehicle did not sustain significant damage, but some paint underneath the right front headlight had been scraped off.

Frame said that after the accident, Sharks defenseman Henry Thrun was in his car, about to leave the arena, when the bus began to back up again. Thrun was waving to fans when, according to Frame, the bus nearly backed up into his car. Thrun and his car were not harmed.

Contacted Sunday, a Sharks spokesperson did not wish to comment on the incident.

The Sharks left San Jose immediately after Saturday’s game, boarding a charter flight to Los Angeles, where they will play the Kings on Sunday night.

Celebrini, 18, is the Sharks’ second-leading scorer with 53 points in 60 games before Sunday, and is considered one of the leading candidates to win the Calder Trophy as the NHL’s rookie of the year.
