Trader Joe’s has a new item that is flying off the shelves, but this time it’s not a seasonal treat.
Mini canvas tote bags are all the rage this week, as the beloved grocery store released some limited-dition spring colors including pastel shades of pink, lavender, baby blue and mint green.
The bags have been selling out everywhere. The San Francisco locations told the Chronicle that customers snapped up all of their bags less than an hour after opening on Tuesday morning. At some stores, people waited in lines 300-deep while waiting for the doors to swing open.
“Last year, when we introduced our Mini Canvas Totes, we were so pleasantly surprised by their rapturous reception that we’re bringing in even more Mini Totes, this time in a series of Pastel shades to herald the beginning of spring,” the grocery store wrote on its website.
The limited-edition bags caused a similar stir last March. Sized at 13 inches long, 11 inches tall and 6 inches wide, the bags sell for just $2.99.

However, the bags have been carrying hefty prices on the second-hand market. As of Wednesday morning, the average price was about $30 a piece on eBay.
Stores are expected to get new shipments throughout the week. For customers, that will likely require some advance planning and the willingness to wait in line early in the morning.
Happy hunting.
