Authorities did not identify the victim immediately, pending the investigation and the notification of relatives. It is the second homicide investigated by Concord police this year; the first occurred in February when a convenience store employee fatally shot somebody that police said was trying to rob the store.
Officers working the area of Monument Boulevard near Meadow Lane heard gunshots about 3 a.m., according to a police statement. As that was happening, police said several 911 calls regarding gunshots in the area were made to dispatchers.
When officers responded, they found a 40-year-old man down at Monument Boulevard and Reganti Drive, police said. Authorities pronounced him dead at the scene.
Investigators quickly determined the shots came from a vehicle that subsequently fled the area. Police did not release any information on the vehicle or any possible suspect.
The investigation is ongoing, and police are looking for help from the public. Anyone with information can contact Detective Justin Wilson at 925-603-5859.
