Branson Smith recorded 25 of the 27 outs it took for Acalanes to keep Alhambra off the scoreboard Thursday.

In a high-level pitchers’ duel, Acalanes was just a little stronger as the Dons — ranked 14th by the Bay Area News Group — bounced back from a 6-2 loss at Alhambra earlier in the week to improve to 11-5-1 overall and 2-2 in the league.
Alhambra, ranked 16th, dropped to 12-6, 2-2.

He struck out 11 and allowed three hits in six innings.
Smith, meanwhile, pitched 8 1/3 innings for Acalanes. He gave up three hits and struck out five while throwing 106 pitches, lowering his season ERA to 1.64.
