The investigation remains ongoing, according to a Gilroy Police Department social media post.
The department and the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration obtained four search warrants for the shops. During inspections and subsequent searches, investigators seized a “significant quantity” of flavored tobacco products, which are prohibited under state law, as well as psilocybin-containing items, which are commonly known as “magic mushrooms.”
The following businesses were cited:
Cloudz Smoke Shop, 8395 Forest Street
Green Rush Smoke Shop, 8620 San Ysidro Avenue
Rock Zone Smoke Shop, 1323 First Street
Fusion Smoke Shop, 8375 Monterey Road
“We will continue to partner with state agencies to ensure that businesses operate within the bounds of the law and do not contribute to the availability of illegal and potentially harmful substances,” the department said.
