Suspects charged in two burglary sprees that targeted East Bay businesses

OAKLAND — Prosecutors have filed two felony cases against alleged burglars who they say targeted businesses around the East Bay.

In one case, two teens have been arrested and charged with smash-and-grab burglaries that targeted gas stations and convenience stores. In another, a 29-year-old man was charged with restaurant burglaries that seemed to favor Wendy’s and Taco Bells in particular, yet victimized numerous businesses from San Leandro to Pacheco.

The 29-year-old man, an Antioch resident, was charged with five counts of burglary. He was allegedly part of a ring that traveled around the Bay Area breaking into restaurants, and prosecutors say that he had a police tracking device on his car during some of the break-ins.

The two teens, aged 18 and 19, allegedly hit three gas stations and two convenience stores, all within the same day, April 24. They face up to 10 years in state prison if convicted.

Alameda County District Attorney Ursula Jones Dickson released a statement saying retail burglaries are a “high priority” for her office.
