Blood donors can get on the ball with Earthquakes

Give blood, see soccer

Stanford Blood Center is holding  San Jose Earthquakes prize drawings during the month of May for everyone who donates blood at locations including the South Bay Donor Center in Campbell.

Through May 11, donors will be entered in a drawing for two pairs of tickets to the Earthquakes’ match against Inter Miami on Wednesday, May 14, at PayPal Park.

Through May 31, donors can win an Earthquakes VIP Experience that includes four field level seats, a VIP parking pass, on-field warmups, an autographed item and access to the Sky Lounge for free food and nonalcoholic beverages.

To make an appointment, visit stanfordbloodcenter.org, call 888-723-7831 or text to 999-777.

CSIs in training

Branham High School student Luke Abbott was on the Crime Scene Investigation team that won a silver medal at the 2025 SkillsUSA California State Leadership and Skills Conference, an event showcasing career and technical education excellence.

Abbott was among nearly 120 students from Silicon Valley Career Technical Education (SVCTE) center to participate in the conference, held April 10-13 in Ontario, CA. SVCTE students were awarded a total of 16 medals—two gold, 10 silver and four bronze—in a wide range of competition categories. In all, more than 4,000 students participated.

New name for old Authority

The West Valley Clean Water Authority has been renamed to better reflect its purpose.

The redubbed West Valley Stormwater Authority said in a release that the new name is better aligned with its focus on stormwater pollution prevention and reduces confusion between the authority and other drinking water agencies.

The agency is in charge of protecting local creeks, habitats and public health by managing stormwater runoff and reducing pollution in Los Gatos, Saratoga, Campbell and Monte Sereno.
