Bay Area News Group girls athlete of the week: Mia Wong, Alameda softball

Alameda softball player Mia Wong is the Bay Area News Group’s girls high school athlete of the week for April 28-May 3.

In online voting that ended at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Wong finished with 44.43% of the votes. Newark Memorial softball player Andrea Tall took second at 19.07%.

Congratulations to all the candidates for this week’s recognition.

Wong, a sophomore, went 4 for 4 with two doubles, knocked in four runs and scored two runs as the Hornets rolled to a 10-0 victory over Bishop O’Dowd in West Alameda County Conference Foothill Division play.

Votes by email do not count. Only votes submitted through the online poll on the Mercury News and East Bay Times websites will count.
