PITTSBURG – After Contra Costa County received $98 million in state funding, three new facilities that provide mental health and recovery services will be built in Pittsburg, Oakley and Pleasant Hill.

Those facilities include the Delta Recovery Center in Oakley, a campus that with 32 beds for adult residential treatment and a mental health rehabilitation center; and the Los Medanos Recovery Center in Pittsburg, a hub that will feature a sobering center, crisis triage, withdrawal management program, and outpatient behavioral healthcare services.

The third facility, Sherman Recovery Center in Pleasant Hill, will have 16 beds for adult residential treatment and a transitional residential facility to support adults with behavioral health needs.

According to Contra Costa Health, the funding was provided through California’s Behavioral Health Continuum Infrastructure Program, a multi-year initiative to improve behavioral health care infrastructure. That state funding is part of Proposition 1, a bond passed by voters in March 2024.

Overall, the funding the county received was part of a $3.3 billion grant for more than 120 projects statewide announced by Gov. Gavin Newsom on May 14.

Contra Costa Health Behavioral Health Services Director Dr. Suzanne Tavano said there is a critical need for the programs to serve residents throughout the county and close to their communities.

“The addition of these facilities will expand access to essential care to better support people who are in need of and would benefit from the mental health treatment services to be provided,” said Tavano in a statement. “This investment will make our county healthier, safer, and more able to provide appropriate care for all our residents.”

The facilities will be built on county-owned properties. Details of the projects are expected to be released by this summer.
