Pedestrian dies on Emeryville freeway after being hit by several vehicles

EMERYVILLE — A man was killed Monday night when he was struck by several vehicles while walking on Interstate 80 after crashing his car, the California Highway Patrol said.

The coroner’s bureau identified the man Tuesday as Erich Raley-Vincent, 44, of Emeryville.

The death occurred about 10:50 p.m. Monday in the westbound lanes of the freeway near the Powell Street off-ramp.

The CHP said Raley-Vincent’s BMW sedan had crashed into a concrete wall on the right shoulder area.

He got out of the vehicle and was walking when he was struck by several vehicles, CHP Officer Adib Zeid said. He was pronounced deceased on the freeway.

The drivers who realized they had struck Raley-Vincent remained at the scene, authorities said.

The I-80 westbound connector lanes to eastbound I-580 and southbound I-80 were shut down for more than two hours while the CHP investigated.

Anyone with information about what happened is asked to contact the CHP Oakland office at 510-457-2875 and ask for Officer C. Velasco.
