San Jose students awarded scholarships, tools

ALMADEN/ROSE GARDEN/WILLOW GLEN: Several students from San Jose Unified high schools were awarded tools, equipment and scholarships at Silicon Valley Career Technical Education (SVCTE) center’s 56th annual Awards Ceremony on May 16.

Willow Glen High School student Anthony Mejia was awarded a $300 Lynch scholarship, Leland High student Jessica Jackson received $750 from West Valley-Mission Community College District Health Services, and Pioneer High’s Liam Brough won a $500 LeRoy Morell Achievement Scholarship for heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC).

Brough was also among 92 students who received the LeRoy Morell Trust Tool Scholarship, established in honor of LeRoy Morell, a 1938 graduate of San Jose Technical High School. Each recipient received tools valued at approximately $750 to support them in the next phase of their education or career.

In addition to Brough, San Jose Unified students awarded a tool scholarship in HVAC include Leland High School’s Sean Gabriel Crisologo and Lincoln’s Julian Vargas and Jesus Mendoza.

Among the 50 electrical maintenance students recognized were Alvaro Ahumada, Steve Perez Aparicio and Ezariah Sofeni from Lincoln High School; Tristan Alberg and Logan Luscher from Pioneer High; Ella Shaffer from Willow Glen High; and Vidal Prado from Broadway High School.

ROSE GARDEN>>Playful People Productions is holding an Adult Summer Camp June 30-July 27 at the Historic Hoover Theatre, 1635 Park Ave. On Mondays and Wednesdays, campers can choose between jazz dance and theater history,  the short play “The Ghost Light, or costume design and improv. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, the choices are tap and theater history, intro to a capella or props design. Fridays feature readers theater or improv.
