Children’s Discovery Museum celebrates Year of the Snake

Lunar New Year celebration

Children’s Discovery Museum of San Jose is hosting its annual Lunar New Year celebration, bringing together Chinese and Vietnamese traditions.

On Feb. 1, 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., museum visitors can participate in hands-on activities like “Beautiful Blossoms,” making an origami snake and coloring a lion mask.

Performances start at 11:30 a.m. with a lion dance by Yun Yee Tong USA, followed by Viet Steps Dance Group at 1:30 p.m. “Year of the Snake” story times are set for 1 p.m. and 2:15 p.m.

Tickets are $18 for children and adults and $16 for seniors at https://www.cdm.org/celebrate/lunar-new-year. Infants less than a year old and museum members are admitted free.

ROSE GARDEN>>Charlee Dyroff, one of three featured authors in this year’s Silicon Valley Reads, will be at the Rose Garden Library on Jan. 31 to discuss her first novel, “Loneliness & Company,” and explore some of the themes in her book. This after-hours program runs 6-7 pm., and refreshments will be served.

The theme for the 2025 Silicon Valley Reads is “Empowering Humanity: Technology for a Better World.” Throughout February and March, Silicon Valley Reads will offer over 150 free events in partnership with schools, libraries, and community organizations across Santa Clara County.
