HAYWARD — A local landlord has been charged with three misdemeanors for allegedly threatening to shoot his tenant, then firing a shot into the ground for good measure.
The 41-year-old Hayward man was charged with making a threat, brandishing a gun and negligent discharge of a firearm, all misdemeanors. He has already been released from jail but is subject to a court order to not possess firearms, records show.
The suspect was arrested on May 25, after his tenant told police about the shooting. The two were arguing when the landlord allegedly brandished a gun and threatened him. Police say a voice could be heard saying, “I’ll shoot you” when the victim was on the phone with a police dispatcher.
The landlord and tenant lived on the same property, authorities said. During the investigation, police learned the landlord owns six guns.
