Food trucks a good way
to connect community
Re: “Launching food truck program to bring mobile eats to city” (Page B1, June 6).
I am glad to see Gilroy taking a proactive approach to community building through its downtown food truck pilot program.
Encouraging food trucks not only revitalizes public spaces by offering citizens a casual place to hang out, but it also supports local entrepreneurs and provides affordable dining options. Unlike traditional restaurants, food trucks have lower startup costs, making it easier for emerging chefs to share culturally rich meals. With thoughtful planning, this initiative could even help ease food insecurity for vulnerable residents and serve as a model for other cities.
More communities should embrace creative, inclusive strategies like this to expand economic opportunities, strengthen local culture and make quality, affordable food more accessible.

Mahan’s homeless plan
is a balanced approach
Re: “Idea for arrests picks up support” (Page A1, June 5).
Thanks for highlighting the value of Mayor Mahan’s Responsibility to Shelter initiative, as there is much misinformation that has been repeated ad nauseam.
Healthier communities are built when we combine compassionate care with responsible governance. The city of San Jose’s RTS framework seeks to balance the urgent need to reduce unsheltered homelessness with the responsibility to keep public spaces safe and accessible for all.

Typically, Trump shirks
Ukraine war promise
Re: “Trump says it may be better to let Ukraine, Russia ‘fight for a while’” (Page A4, June 6).
During the presidential campaign, Donald Trump made the promise to end the Ukraine-Russia conflict on “Day One.” And now, unable to fulfill his word again, he thinks they should continue the war.
His remarks about “two young children fighting like crazy” and “sometimes you’re better off letting them fight for a while” are not only a bad analogy but also show a real lack of maturity. If he was even around, I wonder if he would have let Don Jr., Ivanka or Eric fight other children like crazy for a while. His schoolyard attitude toward international diplomacy, like his name-calling and bullying, reveals his true character; childish and not befitting a real president.
The TACO acronym (“Trump Always Chickens Out”) is very fitting for him. Whenever he is unable to resolve an issue, regardless of promises, he just withdraws.

Why is Trump taking
it easy on Musk?
If there’s one thing everyone knows and agrees on, it’s that Donald Trump is a “get-even” kind of guy. He goes after his perceived enemies and anyone who disagrees with him. He name-calls, hurls insults, and threatens anyone who tries to stop him or his agenda.
That should give us pause when we see his reluctance to say anything harsh or insulting about Elon Musk. For the first time I can remember, Trump has bit his tongue. He has refrained from calling out Musk and even didn’t respond when Musk suggested Trump was part of Jeffrey Epstein’s damaging files … even when Musk reposted a comment suggesting impeachment.
Am I the only one wondering just what Musk has on Trump? Here’s hoping their “bromance” is over … for the sake of our country.

Israel critics silent on
U.S. antisemitic violence
We read letters to the editor regularly condemning Israel for its actions in Gaza. But where are those voices when Jews are attacked and murdered here in America? The silence is profound.
I have one question for them: You may believe what you want, but the reality of who is committing acts of terror, violence and murder in our own country cannot be camouflaged with lies. Look to your own streets. What do you see?
Think about that the next time you feel obliged to comment on what you have heard and ignore what you see happening around you.

Conservatives allowing
Trump’s worst impulses
In the mornings, I watch CSPAN. One hundred percent of the Republican and most of the independent voters who call in love Donald Trump and what he’s doing in office.

Trump will get worse and, with the help of the conservative Supreme Court, he will get away with almost anything. The only way to stop him is to vote him out. That may never happen with what Trump and the Republicans are allowing him to get away with. The conservatives on the Supreme Court just allowed DOGE complete access to our Social Security numbers, bank account data, tax information and earnings history. All in the name of combating waste, fraud and abuse.
I have no doubt Trump will use this information for his own benefit to suppress those who go against his will.
