HAYWARD — BART service between Hayward and San Leandro was stopped Thursday morning because of a “major medical emergency” the at the Hayward Station, officials said.
BART officials did not immediately specify the nature of the emergency. Officials did say firefighters were on the scene.

The stoppage happened about 7:25 a.m. and was still in effect at 8:20 a.m.
BART official said service was stopped between the South Hayward and Bay Fair stations. They did not say how long the closure was expected to continue.
Riders were advised to seek alternative routes and BART said AC Transit was providing assistance.
It is the second time this week a major medical emergency has disrupted BART service. On Monday morning the North Berkeley BART station was closed for at least an hour after a woman was struck on a trackway.
