Sunnyvale nonprofit offers no-interest financing for residents to go green

The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District in March transferred operational control of Bear Creek Stables to the Friends, a nonprofit group formed to preserve the equine site. The Friends were tasked with raising $250,000 to establish an initial operating fund for a few years before they can continue with a long-term agreement with the district.

As of June 9, the nonprofit has raised $90,000 in donations. The money will be used for equine- and nature-based programs, classes, workshops and camps. According to the nonprofit’s website, once they reach the $250,000 goal, they can access $6 million in district funding for infrastructure improvements.

Silicon Valley Clean Energy (SVCE) recently launched a financing pilot program designed to make clean energy home upgrades more accessible and affordable for residents of 13 Santa Clara County communities, including Los Gatos and Monte Sereno.

The Sunnyvale-based nonprofit’s Zero Interest Financing Program removes significant upfront costs for homeowners who want to install energy-efficient heat pump systems and water heaters by offering no-interest loans for up to 100% of the cost of new equipment.

Beyond financial accessibility, the pilot program includes bill monitoring and ongoing support for new equipment to ensure that the energy savings realized offset the loan payments.

This new financing pilot is expected to serve approximately 200 homes initially and target customers with a high-bill savings potential. For more information and to apply, visit https://svcleanenergy.org/financing.
