Cupertino is taking nominations for community service awards

CREST Awards

Nominations are open for the 2025 CREST, or “Cupertino Recognizes Extra Steps Taken,” awards. The City of Cupertino uses the awards to recognize individuals and organizations for their community service. Award categories include Lifetime Achievement, Volunteer of the Year, Organization of the Year, Rising Star of the Year and Hometown Hero.

Winners will be honored at the Cupertino Community Service Awards on Wednesday, Oct. 29. Submit nominations at cupertino.gov/crest.

Commission openings

Cupertino residents can apply for city commissions and committees that currently have vacancies. These include the Economic Development Committee, Housing Commission and Public Safety Commission.

The Economic Development Committee is looking for representatives from the following industries: technology, retail, hospitality, education and commercial real estate. The committee works to attract and retain businesses, foster public and private partnerships and advise the City Council on economic development goals.

The Housing Commission is looking for a business representative to fill an unscheduled vacancy with a term expiring Jan. 30, 2027. Housing commissioners help develop housing policies and strategies, recommend policies for implementation and monitoring of affordable housing projects and help identify sources of funding for affordable housing.

The Public Safety Commission is also looking to fill an unscheduled vacancy with a term expiring Jan. 30, 2027. The individual must live in Cupertino. The commission advises the City Council on all areas relating to public safety, traffic, police and fire.

The application deadline is 9 a.m. on Monday, July 7. Council will conduct interviews beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 16 and/or at 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 17 (as needed).
