Car crashes into San Jose martial arts gym

SAN JOSE — Police are investigating after a vehicle crashed into a Brazilian jiujitsu academy Sunday afternoon, authorities said.

The vehicle fled the scene after crashing into Caio Terra Academy, which is located on the 800 block of Park Avenue, according to the San Jose Police Department.

“Sometimes in life things go your way, and sometimes someone crashes a car through your dream,” said Caio Terra, the owner of the studio, in a social media post. “Luckily no one was hurt and we can rebuild.”

After hitting the academy, the suspected vehicle separately collided with another vehicle, police added. The driver fled the scene before police arrived, and police are continuing to investigate the incidents.

Members of the gym helped clean up Sunday night and the front of the academy was boarded up until it can be fixed, said Luna Aguirre, an employee. Classes are proceeding as scheduled Monday, she added.

“Thanks to everyone who came out to help clean up, and to (SJPD) for doing an amazing job,” Terra added. “The guy drove off but they have his license and a video of him so it’s only a matter of time!”
