Jacob Elordi’s fascination with Olivia Jade Giannulli never made much sense, which probably explains why the pair have finally called it quits after four years of on-off dating and never going so far as to walk a red carpet together or to go “Instagram official.”

People and other outlets announced news of the split Thursday, after Elordi, 28, reunited with his ex-girlfriend Kaia Gerber at the star-studded birthday for Cara Delevingne on Tuesday. Meanwhile, YouTuber Giannulli, 25, posted a video about her gallivanting around Paris and talking excitedly about what she thinks will be a “formative” time in the French capital.

While Elordi and Giannulli are both famous, attractive people, their relationship always seemed a bit off because the 6-foot-5-inch Australian star is supposed to be one of the today’s top contenders for serious film actor, following his breakout performances in the HBO show “Euphoria” and in the 2023 films, “Priscilla” and “Saltburn.” Elordi also has been busy lately with such prestige projects as playing The Monster in Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming version of “Frankenstein,” and Heathcliff (a role made memorable by Laurence Olivier) in a new film adaptation of “Wuthering Heights.”

As for Giannulli? She’s best known as the influencer daughter of TV star Lori Loughlin and fashion designer Mossimo Giannulli, who were both arrested in 2019 and served time in federal prison for paying bribes to win her and her older sister Isabella admission to the University of Southern California.

Giannulli was herself embroiled in the scandal when prosecutors alleged that she and her sister were complicit in efforts by bribery scheme mastermind William “Rick” Singer to falsely portray them as talented crew team recruits in their USC applications. Among other things, Giannulli and her sister posed on rowing machines for photos that were used to create the phony athletic profiles.

After Giannulli’s parents were arrested, she never went back to USC, where she was a freshman. She also lost lucrative endorsement deals for her influencer business on Instagram and YouTube. However, six years later, her YouTube channel appears to be thriving again, with 1.9 million subscribers as she posts occasional videos with makeup tutorials and other content.

Giannulli first became the subject of rumors that she was dating Elordi in 2021, when they were seen having coffee together in Los Angeles, just one month after Elordi’s split from model and actor Kaia Gerber, according to People.

Giannulli and Elordi reportedly called it quits in August 2022 but later reconciled and were seen vacationing together in Italy in June 2023. They were also spotted spending time on Lake Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, with Giannulli’s parents in July of that year. Multiple sources told People they were still going strong in January 2024. As recently as April, Giannulli seemed to hint that they were going strong, after liking an Instagram post from the actor’s sister Isabella Elordi about his latest project, the Amazon Prime World War II drama series, “The Narrow Road to the Deep North.”

But Giannulli was very much not present when Elordi joined other celebrity guests at Delevingne’s birthday bash at Chateau Marmon, according to E! News. In addition to Elordi and Gerber, other guests included his “Wuthering Heights” co-star Margot Robbie, as well as Selena Gomez, Colman Domingo and Paris Hilton.
