The CHP still was investigating the circumstances behind the wreck, which happened about 4:10 a.m. on southbound state Highway 242 near the Grant Street exit. Authorities did not identify the person right away, pending the notification of relatives.

Early reports on the wreck confirmed by the agency indicated a motorcycle spun out and wobbled before being hit by another vehicle.

The crash continued a deadly week on Bay Area freeways and roads. A suspected DUI crash on eastbound Interstate 580 on the Richmond side of the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge killed a Honda driver and Petaluma resident, while a one-car crash on northbound Interstate 680 near the Monument Boulevard exit in Pleasant Hill killed a Concord resident. Both of those wrecks happened Tuesday.

The wreck blocked all lanes of the highway for about 30 minutes, and the agency issued a Sig Alert for severe traffic. The CHP opened the far left lane about 4:40 a.m. The other three lanes remained blocked until about 6:25 a.m., when the CHP cancelled the Sig Alert.

No other information was available immediately.
