Mitty girls volleyball coach steps down after leading Monarchs to consecutive state finals

Mitty girls volleyball coach steps down after leading Monarchs to consecutive state finals

SAN JOSE — Jon Wallace has stepped down after coaching the storied Archbishop Mitty girls volleyball program for the past four seasons, the school announced Wednesday.

The decision will allow Wallace to spend more time with his family and watch his daughter Whitney (Oklahoma) and son Joe (UC Santa Barbara) play college volleyball.

In his time at Mitty, Wallace led the Monarchs to three NorCal Open Division championships and the past two Open Division state finals.

“The impact Coach Wallace has had on our program since taking over in 2021 is remarkable,” Mitty athletic director Brian Eagleson said in a statement. “But more important than the titles, is the way that he has led our program — he is a master teacher who excels in communication and creating an environment of positivity and growth.

“While saddened that we are losing such an outstanding coach and mentor to our student-athletes, I am happy that he now has additional time with his family and a chance to travel and watch his own kids compete.”

The process to find a replacement for Wallace has started, the school’s news release noted. If interested, email Eagleson at [email protected].
