SEATTLE — Colton McKivitiz has capitalized on the NFL’s red-hot market for right tackles, and the 49ers, in turn, have locked in another homegrown starter.
McKivitz has secured a three-year, $45 million extension with $27 million guaranteed, ESPN’s Adam Schefter first reported Monday morning.

McKivitz played all 68 offensive snaps in the 49ers’ 17-13, season-opening comeback win at the Seattle Seahawks.
In the days leading up to the opener, McKivitz spoke about the burgeoning market for right tackles, though he said “nothing crazy” was in the works for his own status as he entered his final season under contract.
“That’s just the market. You’re seeing what the NFL is looking for, and that’s solid offensive linemen,” McKivitz said last Thursday. “For those guys to get paid, it’s great for me and all right tackles.”
Since training camp, five right tackles have signed extensions worth $15 million to $22.5 million annually. That includes this week’s deals for Tampa Bay’s Luke Goedeke (four years, $90 million) and Seattle’s Abe Lucas (three years, $46 million). Earlier ones went to Green Bay’s Zach Tom (four years, $88 million), Atlanta’s Kaleb McGary (two years, $30 million) and Carolina’s Taylor Moton (two years, $44 million).
McKivitz has been entrenched and almost unchallenged as the 49ers’ right tackle since Mike McGlinchey left in free agency for the Denver Broncos (five years, $87.5 million).
A 2020 fifth-round draft pick out of West Virginia, McKivitz got cut after the 2021 preseason, re-signed to the practice squad then proved himself as a valuable and versatile backup before replacing McGlinchey.

The 49ers’ other opening-day starters who are slated for 2026 free agency are wide receiver Jauan Jennings, defensive tackles Jordan Elliott and Kalia Davis, linebacker Luke Gifford, safety Jason Pinnock, long snapper Jon Weeks and punter Thomas Morstead.
Earlier this year, the 49ers awarded contract extensions to three more high-profile former draft picks — quarterback Brock Purdy, tight end George Kittle and linebacker Fred Warner.
