Crews got calls from several people about 5:25 a.m. about the fire in the 1300 block of Second Street near Gilman Street, spokesperson Deputy Fire Chief Keith May said. When they arrived, they saw a fire burning at the encampment, which was situated between two buildings.

Both of buildings were damaged when the fire spread to them. Keith said it was not known immediately the financial cost of the blaze. Both had been abandoned and nobody was inside.

Nobody at the homeless camp was injured. Crews had the blaze under control by 6 a.m.
