De La Salle overpowers St. Francis, improves to 3-0

De La Salle brought a dominant defense and explosive playmakers to Mountain View for its annual non-league game against St. Francis on Friday night.

The strengths were more than enough to keep the Spartans undefeated.

De La Salle built a 19-point cushion by halftime and went on to win 00-00 to improve to 3-0 while dropping St. Francis to 0-3.

Jaden Jefferson, who in May set the California state meet record in the 100 meters at 10.01 seconds, got the scoring started when he exploded through the line and dashed 75 yards for a touchdown that made it 7-0.

The visitors extended the margin to 13-0 later in the quarter when on fourth-and-7 Brayden Knight connected on a deep pass to Dylan Scott for a 41-yard touchdown.

Landon Miller added another touchdown when he made a strip sack, picked up the ball and rumbled a short distance into the end zone.

The defensive score gave DLS a 19-0 halftime lead.

Another highlight on defense – Bubba Vargas’ interception early in the third quarter – set up Jefferson’s second touchdown of the game, a 21-yard run that widened the score to 26-0.

Duece Jones-Drew’s 4-yard run across the goal line made it 33-0 and Brady Smith’s 41-yard run stretched the advantage to 40-0.

The Spartans dominated despite four turnovers. St. Francis had three.
