Ferooz and Alejandra Nangeyali, the proprietors of Union City-based Alfa Private Security, must pay $210,652 to workers they defrauded and $80,872 to the State Compensation Insurance Fund, the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office said in a news release.

To date, prosecutors have located 37 of the 81 individuals identified as victims of wage theft.

The case was jointly investigated by the California Department of Insurance and the California Labor Commissioner’s Office, in conjunction with the district attorney’s office.

During the four-year probe, prosecutors reviewed the company’s compensation policies and financial records, as well as interviewed former employees who claimed they were not lawfully compensated for working regular and overtime hours.

“Through our joint efforts, over $200,000 will be returned to dozens of workers who were cheated out of their hard-earned income,” District Attorney Ursula Jones Dickson said in a statement.

The Nangeyalis are scheduled to return to court for further proceedings on Nov. 4.

Anyone who worked for Alfa Private Security and believes they are owed back wages can contact the district attorney’s office at 510-383-8600 or [email protected].
