SANTA CLARA — In his ninth NFL season, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan has had some of his toughest games in the NFC West against the Arizona Cardinals.
Going into Sunday’s game at Levi’s Stadium (1:25 PST, Fox), Shanahan’s teams are 7-9 against the Cardinals against four different coaches — Bruce Arians, Steve Wilks, Kliff Kingsbury and Jonathan Gannon.
The 49ers were swept last season, including a 24-23 loss at Levi’s Stadium in a game they led 23-10 entering the fourth quarter.
“When you change coaches it’s always different with scheme and stuff,” Shanahan said Wednesday. “And when you’ve got a quarterback like Kyler (Murray), regardless of who the game’s going or how good you’re doing you never know when he can do something off schedule.
“There’s not anything in particular, they’ve got good coaches and good players.”
