SAN JOSE – The San Jose Sharks’ season-opening roster was officially released on Tuesday, with center Michael Misa and defenseman Sam Dickinson on the team as expected and forward Egor Afanasyev and defenseman Jack Thompson among a group designated as injured and/or non-roster players.

Also designated as injured non-roster players were defenseman Lucas Carlsson and goalie Carey Price. Center Logan Couture and defenseman Ryan Ellis were placed on injured reserve.
Couture, who spent his entire 15-year career with the Sharks, announced in April that his playing days were over due to chronic injury. Price, acquired last month from the Montreal Canadiens, and Ellis, acquired from the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday, are also not expected to play again.
Afanasyev and Thompson both played in the Sharks’ second-to-last preseason game on Friday on the road against the Vegas Golden Knights. It was not immediately clear when both players were injured, although Thompson did not play the final 10 minutes of the third period of what became a 4-1 Sharks win.
Misa and Dickinson could make their NHL debuts on Thursday when the Sharks open the regular season at home against the Golden Knights.
