LOS ALTOS HILLS — Jeovanni Henley needed just two plays to atone for what could have been a critical mistake.
Instead, Serra’s two-way star flipped it into a moment he’ll never forget.
Facing off against Archbishop Mitty at Foothill College, Henley lost the ball at Mitty’s 10-yard line on the final play of the third quarter, giving the Monarchs the ball back down one.
Two plays later, the Padres led by a touchdown after Henley snagged Joseph Engin’s short pass and returned it 13 yards to the end zone. That play set the tone for the new quarter, and the rest of the game, as Serra added on with another score and cruised to a 28-13 win.
“Only a true champion can do something like that,” Serra coach Patrick Walsh said. And as I’ve been saying, Jeo is one of the best players in Northern California.”

The Padres (5-3, 5-0 WCAL) benefited from Henley’s two-way excellence as a tone-setting hard runner in the offensive backfield and a center fielder in the defensive backfield. Henley also plays some on special teams.
After fumbling away a promising Serra drive, Henley was determined to atone for his mistake.
“I knew that they had all the energy after that fumble, and I knew I needed to get my revenge,” Henley said. “And once I saw the ball come out, I knew I needed to get the ball and score the touchdown. And once I scored, I knew that we’re going to gain all that energy back and then win the game.”
