Muir Woods National Monument reopened last Thursday and will remain open to the public through Oct. 31.
The National Park Service closed the park because of the federal government shutdown that began Oct. 1. Private donations enabled park operations to briefly resume.

Must See Tours is one of the businesses that organized the reopening. The San Francisco company is offering daily morning and evening tours at the park.
“The park and staff have given so much to me and the community, and I wanted to make sure that I gave back,” said Faycal Bouabdallah, the company’s chief executive officer.
The National Park Service will not charge its $15 entrance fee per person during the reopening, but parking reservations are still required at GoMuirWoods.com.
Rangers will offer programs at the park. The visitor center and the Muir Woods Trading Co. gift shop and restaurant will be open.

On Thursday, the Senate rejected dueling partisan bills to pay federal workers. Many were set to miss their first full paycheck at the end of the week.
The two parties remain at a protracted impasse. Republicans objected as Democrats proposed a voice vote on their legislation to pay all federal workers and block President Donald Trump’s administration from mass firings. Democrats then blocked a Republican bill to pay employees who are working and not furloughed.
